Water Baptism

In Christianity, baptism (from Greek βάπτισμα and βαπτισμός, meaning "immersing", "performing ablution") is the sacramental act of cleansing in water that admits one as a full member of the Church.

Roman Catholics, Eastern Orthodox, and Lutherans, are baptized as infants. Baptists and certain other groups baptize only after a person accepts Jesus Christ as their Savior ("believer's baptism"). Most Christians baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, but some baptize in Jesus' name only.

In Matthew, the resurrected Jesus commands his disciples to baptize (Mat 28:19)
The Gospel of John says that Jesus baptized, but adds that "Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples."

The most usual form of baptism among early Christians was for the candidate to stand in water and water to be poured over the upper body. Baptism has traditionally been seen as necessary for salvation. Martyrdom was identified early in church history as baptism by blood, allowing martyrs who had not been baptized by water to be saved. Later, the Church identified baptism by desire, by which, when joined with repentance for their sins, and charity, those preparing for baptism who die before actually receiving the sacrament are considered to be saved.

Our dear Eileen was newly baptised on the 30th March 2008, proclaiming her love for Jesus to the world with such act.

It's probably part of Chee Foo's tradition now to play a little game on the newly baptised. First she has to be blind-folded, then to taste the grainy item on her finger...

Salt of course.

Now that she is baptised, she must also realize that God wants her to be the Salt of the world.

Characteristic of salt: Preserves, Purifies, Heals, Flavors, Melts, Gives Energy, Creates Thirst.

Light.

It symbolises, that she is also to be the light of the world and to shine for Jesus.

Characteristics of Light: Illuminates, Promotes Life, Awakens us from sleep, Provides Directions, Is Persistence, Attracts, Solves Problems.

Apple.

This is for her to know that she is always the apple of God's eye.

Hide-ing Out

Last Saturday, we had a fun filled time at ET Zone outing, at the "Hideout Cafe"


Representing N116, we have..*drumroll*

Zhifu, Yubing, Taru, Sienny, Yenny, Magdeline and myself.

Up 1st, was ice-breaking session, each group gets to play different games and ours is called "Ugly Doll" and the rule is simple. (somewhat similar to "Heart Attack")

Everyone picks a card from the pile, and whoever picks the matching card with someone else in the group, you shout the person's name instead of "Heart Attack!"

Whoever is 1st will take the card from the other party.

So in this case, the one with the most cards win, and the losing one will be the one with the least card.

Guess who lost this 1st game in our group?

Sidenote: There is a "forfeit tree" in Hideout Cafe,


and Zhifu picked the..

"Go to your friends and shout "It's raining!" Then, run to the washroom and wet your face. Return and ask them "How did you manage to keep so dry."

Next up, we had the game of "Guesstures - Bible edition"

(About: Act up! Act out! Act fast! You have only a few short seconds per word! It looks easy, but it’s not. As soon as your team guesses the word on the card, grab it before it gets swallowed by the card-hungry Mimer Timer. Then hurry on to the next card! The harder the word, the more points it’s worth. Grab the most points to win!)

We had a whooping 21 points, only 1 point short of the leading team.

By this time, Zhifu was already planning how we can spend the vouchers.

Following this, we went back to our groups, had some refreshments and went on the the next 5 games.

"HedBanz"
(Figure out if the picture on your head is an animal, food, or a household item. You never know what you are until you start asking questions! Everybody knows but you!)

"Taboo"
(The object of the game is for a player to have their partner(s) guess the word on their card without using the word itself or five additional words listed on the card.)

"Mad Gab"
(It’s the game that has everyone speaking a strange language called Mad Gab! Read a group of simple words aloud, like “Yore Luke Ink Hood”. Did you “hear” the answer? Try saying them again. Sound familiar? Quick, the timer’s ticking! Did you hear yourself say “You’re Looking Good”?
You and your teammates have two minutes to sound out three puzzles.
The faster you guess, the more you score!
OK, the timer is set, the card flipper is loaded and everyone’s ready for a laugh riot!
Just remember: when it comes to scoring points, it’s not what you say, it’s what you hear!)

At the end of the day, we were proud to have won the 3rd position with 217 points.

falling behind the 1st which had 250+ points and 2nd which had 230+ points.

We, the 7 people did quite well if u calculate the average per person points..;)

Special Feature - Jennifer

Recently we just celebrated the beautiful Jennifer's twenty something birthday. If you read on, you may be able to calculate out her age.

"God is blessing you now..."

Amanda wrote a poem to express her love to the birthday girl

It took a while... but I think Jennifer finally understood what Amanda was trying to say.

Belinda from Shopping Ministry bought her something pretty.

"Do I look pretty with the new bag?"

As most of you know, Jennifer may be new to our cell group, recently transferred to N116 from N50, but she is not new to the church.

Coming from an average family with a younger brother accompanying through her childhood, she learned to love and be generous from her loving parents who are her first role model in her life.

At a tender age of 16, she was introduced to the church through the street evangelism organised by CHC back then. Impressed by the tireless effort of the cell members keeping contact with her and their close followup with the right amount of discipleship, she began to bond closer with the members but even closer with God.

Serving God as an usher for the past 8 years, her faithfulness has earned her the position of Team Usher, but she knows that there is still room for improvement, she expressed that she wants to serve more in the ministry and hope to achieve the position of Training Section by next year.

Since she started working, and learning from teaching of Pastor Kong Hee, she has the dream of achieving the lifestyle of Complete Financial Freedom. So 3 years ago, she devoted her career in a new direction as a financial advisor and have been loving it ever since. She believes that putting in more effort in work should mean earning her more income, which is why she gave up her salary based job in the first place. She believes in being her own boss, running her own business. And she definitely wants to be a philanthropist, to sponsor mission trips and do more for the society. But her biggest goal in her life is to be a "Tai-Tai" which I believe is very much achievable.

Newly married, she and Benny shares a common dream of having at least 2 kids in their life. Boy-Girl, Girl-Boy or Boy-Boy, any such of these combination would be ideal. But for now, she's looking forward to attend School of Theology next year (I can imaging Chee Foo smiling now).

Asking her what she feel about her new family N116... she definitely love it here. Its different from all of her previous cell groups which for one would be the age gap. Here she befriends members between 5 to 65 of age. She love the effort of this big family puts in to make someone feel special and the personnal touch that feels sincere and real. Everyone is just so young at heart, which makes her feel heart warming to be among us.

Happy Birthday Jennifer, we love having you with us too. Looking forward to grow together in friendship and in spirit.

Healing the Sick

Some of our cell members are presently sick in the body... Some are having flu, some have cough, one was just discharged from hospital after a surgery, another is being quarantined for having Chicken Pox.

Let's continue to pray for each other and claim the promise of healing.

The Bible is one of the oldest book with power & proof of Gods love, grace and healing power, is filled with promises and accounts regarding health and healing for His people.

God’s love to His people is shown in. In Exodus 15:26, He says, "I am the Lord that healeth thee.”

Jesus when he came as a human began healing all who came to Him.

Matthew 4:23 “And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease..."

Everybody's Birthday

According to the Chinese New Year tradition, the 7th day is a special day, it' everybody's birthday. And to celebrate this day, we eat a special delicacy call the Yu Sheng.

Its raw fish and a bundle of other stuffs...

Amanda started the ball rolling,

Whoever is selected to pour in the ingredient must say words of blessings.

"Huat la!!! Huat La!!! Flowing with milk and honey!"

"Prosperity coming your way!!"

Its Chinese New Year!!!

Who say Christians don't celebrate Chinese New Year?

This is "Tradition"... nothing to do with "Religion"

Anyway, to us, Christianity is not a religion, its a relation. Relation with God, and relation with people.

What better way to strengthen relationships than to visit people during this season?

After moving into his love-nest for a year, our leader finally opened his house for the cell group to visit on Sunday. We finally got a chance to see how this man of God decorated his home, where he prayed every night, where he had... his meals.

We ate and drank and fellowshipped.

Everyone loved the hospitality of Chee Foo.

Next stop, they came to Sengkang, home of Richard and Xanthe for the past 7 years.

The lady of the house showed them interesting photos and videos of her trip to New Zealand, and told stories of her encounters with the lovely people there.

Gong Xi Gong Xi...
