Its Gil's birthday...!!!

The young inspiring self motivated teacher in training celebrated her birthday with cheers and claps from near 30 cell members packed in the house.

Angeline and YuBing gave words of encouragements and edification to her.

Gil was previously from a youth cell group, but ever since she started working, she requested to be transferred to an adult cell group.

She found us to be a bunch of dynamic working hippies and youthful old folks, and decided to stay on with us.

Earlier, she shared her testimony of how God has blessed her to have good grades of 3-As and 4-Bs in her study in NIE degree course. This confirmed to let her to have a Honors in the degree course. Praise the Lord!!!

After her study, she will go on to be a full pledged teacher, grooming fresh young minds to be the leaders of the future.

This is the Cultural Mandate.

Spiritual Disciplines

Dr. AR Bernard preached the message of Spiritual Disciplines in Aug 07.

The only way to engage culture successfully without compromising our spiritual integrity is by the maintaining our spiritual disciplines.

"But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself." -Daniel 1:8

Food & drinks generally represents the lifestyle of the society.

The world feeds on Envy, Jealously, Greed -> Pride, ego, fear, lust, selfish ambitions.

And the bible tells us not to feed on what feeds the world. Like Daniel, we can be taught in the sciences, arts, languages and have a name of the world, and yet maintain a holy and a life that is set-apart for God.

The spiritual disciplines that Christians need to exercise regularly:-
1) Praying
2) Reading the bible
3) Bible study
4) Fasting
5) Thanksgiving
->Acknowledging God's grace in our life
->Prevents Discontentment in our lives, discontentment arises from Lust.
-> Greed doesn't get into a thankful heart
6) Solitude
-> A season of being apart from people to seek wisdom from God.
7) Repentance
8) Forgiveness / Confession
-> Confession precedes repentance.
-> Without confession = Denial
-> Confession is taking responsibility for actions, allowing God's healing and redemption.

Why bad things happen to good people

We live in a broken world were lives are broken around us, we see divorce, death, sickness, etc all the times.

There are 4 basic facts if life:
Understanding the 4 facts of life, we will be mentally prepared for crisis.

When bad things happen, we must have faith, with faith in the Lord, believing that He will preserve us no matter what happens.

1)
Suffering is a good cure for PRIDE;
"I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. And I know that this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows— was caught up to paradise. He heard inexpressible things, things that man is not permitted to tell.
(2 Cor 12:2-4)

-We must humble ourselves so to receive further blessing
-We must NOT exalt ourselves
-Don't be proud... be like Jesus

2)
Suffering presses us onto God's grace;
Grace is God's supernatural strength to do what we cannot do by ourselves.

-When things happen we lean on God's will and trust God's word

3)
Suffering is a training ground for strength.
It helps to build faith.

"You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus."
(2 Tim 2:1)

"To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps."
(1Peter 2:21)

4)
Suffering reveals the true nature of our faith.
-will you still follow God's word/Jesus if you are suffering?
-God uses suffering to find His real followers.

May Day Game

Labour Day - The day the government declared for all her citizens to have the rest day from all the labour in a year.

Thankfully, we were able to have the day off and gather at Dorin's house to recharge both spiritually and physically, rest (well, if you read on, we didn't exactly laze around and do nothing), do some exercise and have some fun together.

After cg, we gathered at the park behind Dorin's house to have some games organised by Benny.

All set and ready to start the games - Captain Ball / Banana, Dog & Bone(or rather Balls).

To prevent any injuries, please do sufficient stretching exercises as demonstrated by Daniel, Othniel, Sky & Angeline.

*Ting Ting* Round One

Amanda, Joy & Yubing: "Angeline!! We love you!!"

And was expressed by wrestling hugging her till she's on the floor.
Not to be outdone by the ladies, the guys expressed their love as well.

F1 Racing

Last Saturday, 26/04/08, was a day of outing for the adult in the ET Zone.
Its a time for the adults in the zone to get together and mingle mingle...

The "management" took much time and effort to plan this massive game.

Some of us come prepared for all sorts of situation.

We have a "Movie Star" among us.

The F1 racer "Models".

You can see the determination to win on Cindy's face.

Mingling before the race

First stop was to the Smelly Bean Curd Shop where they sell the specially fermented pieces of tofu and then deep fried it.
When we reached there, the smell tells us it is the right store.
Some of us couldn't even stand near the store, but I like it.

Because there was a sudden increase in demand, we had to wait for the tofu to be fried, that's why it so hot to eat.

The next stop was at Old Airport Road hawker store, where we are to buy a buy a bowl of Ice Kacang and decorate it with sweets and tidbits which we bought earlier and finish eating it fast.

Some of us bought chewing sweets and Fisherman's Friend... no way we can swallow these in a mouthful.

This is the next clue that was given, Aden figured without looking at it. All it took was to tell him its somewhere in East Coast Park.

Before heading to the next checkpoint, we were told to buy durian and bring it along.

This is the second last station, we have to "Fight" with the other teams to get to the clue at the top of the tower.

At the end point, every team brought out their own durain comparing sizes and prices.

This is the infamous $70 Durian from Amanda's team. How dos it taste?

It's time to find out...

You can see the joy in Joy when she is eating the $70 durian. So, do you think it tasted good?

F1 Racers and Chee Foo

Daniel giving a good report about the goodness of God in his life.

Amanda's team got the "Unity Award"

Daniel Cheah's got the Runner-up prize
